Event Spotlight: Clean Construction Workshop – CII Pune

Date: 6th May 2025
Location: Pune (Hybrid: Offline + Online)

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Pune, in partnership with its Delhi team, hosted a pivotal event on sensor-based AQMS (Air Quality Monitoring System) adoption in the construction sector. This workshop brought together builders, environmental consultants, civic authorities, and technology providers to answer a critical question:

Top 7 Insights from the Workshop

    1. 23% of Dust in Pune Comes from Construction Sites
Officials confirmed that nearly one-fourth of Pune’s PM pollution is from construction activity — making AQMS mandatory for all medium-to-large sites.
    2. PMC + PCMC SOP for AQMS Is Underway
The CII team shared that city-specific AQMS SOPs are in draft mode. These will include device placement, display mandates, and data sharing protocols.
    3. Builders Are Using AQMS to Study Dust Behavior
Innovative developers showcased how real-time dust data helps them optimize water spraying and adjust work schedules for pollution control.
    4. Affordable AQMS for Small Sites is a Priority
Participants advocated for tiered compliance models so smaller developers can deploy AQMS without cost barriers — possibly via leasing or shared systems.
    5. Warning: Fake AQMS Installations Are Failing
      • Systems switched off after NOC approval
      • Indoor or tampered sensors
      • No dashboard access for PMC
      • Unresponsive vendors post-sale
    6. LED Display Boards Are Now Mandatory
Per MPCB and BMC EOI, every AQMS must display data on a 3x4 ft LED screen visible from outside the site. Public visibility = Legal compliance.
    7. Sathi AQMS Leads the Charge in Pune
Sai Gade presented how Sathi AQMS:
      • Aligns with BMC EOI specs
      • Is field-tested in Mumbai & Pune
      • Supports cloud dashboard, SOP training, and certified hardware
      • Is ready for mass deployment in both small and large projects
